is a simple, natural form of energy healing.
Imagine it as a soothing, universal life energy that promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
We all have energy flowing through us. When you’re stressed, in pain, or emotionally overwhelmed, that energy can get stuck or depleted–like a kink in a garden hose. Reiki gently helps to unkink the hose, allowing your natural energy to flow smoothly again.
During a session, I simply place my hands lightly on or above you, and the energy flows to where your body needs it most. It’s safe, peaceful, and non-invasive. You remain fully clothed, and there is no pressure or manipulation.
Reiki treatment, developed by Japanese Master – Mikao Usui, consists of the Reiki practitioner laying his/her hands on the Reiki receiver in different body positions for 3 minutes. These body positions match the Reiki receiver’s primary Chakras on the front and back of the body. The Reiki receiver can be self, another person, an animal, a plant. Reiki can be sent either in person or remotely (distance healing). The Reiki practitioner hands pulsate with divine love and healing through “Rei” – universal or cosmic energy, and “Ki” – the life force which flows through everything that is living.
The Reiki practitioner is attuned to a series of Japanese symbols which act as a spiritual catalyst, along with the Reiki prayer (one translation below). The main function of the Reiki pulsating divine love and healing is to promote balance.
Just for today I will let go of worry
Just for today I will let go of anger
Just for today I will be kind to every living creature
Just for today I will be grateful for my many blessings
Just for today I will respect the oneness of all beings.
Reiki is a spiritual practice. Reiki is safe in any situation. Reiki ever so gently influences the individual system toward balance. Reiki is considered CAM – Complementary and Alternative Medicine – which can be used alone or alongside conventional medical therapies. Reiki is not just for those in crisis situations. It can be used every day, every week, or twice a year at the turn of the seasons to bring balance as the body adjusts to climatic changes. Reiki always works for the Highest Good of the receiver.
Reiki is well-known and well-respected as a CAM in major hospitals and institutions across the country, including but not limited to, New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), National Institute of Health (NIH), Yale Medical School, Harvard Medical School, Lenox Hill Hospital, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
